Modern Day Spoilers
Beginning in 1998, Mattel began to reissue modified versions of some of the original Spoilers cars.  Six of the
original eight cars were re-casted and reissued, and 19 different modern day Spoilers variations have been
released to date.  The first to be reissued were the King Kuda, Light-My-Firebird, Heavy Chevy, and Nitty Gritty
Kitty, which appeared in the "
30th Anniversary Hot Wheels Cars" set, shown below. These re-worked versions
of the Spoilers had fatter bodies and more exaggerated blown engines than the originals, and did not come with
door numbers or racing stripes.  The set sells today for about $25-35.

The following year, Mattel included the 1998 King Kuda casting in their "Cool Collectibles" series, better known to
collectors as "black box" cars.  The King Kuda was issued in two colors, silver and gold.  The blown engine from
1998 was replaced by an opening hood.  These black box cars sell for about $5-7 today.

reissue certain castings that were of the redline era for collectors.  The modified King Kuda, Light-My-Firebird,
Nitty Gritty Kitty and Heavy Chevy were all issued in 2002 as part of the HotwheelsCollectors.com first series.
2002
The Evil Weevil casting was again
used as part of the
HotwheelsCollectors.com line, this
time for the "Real Riders" series.
2005
The Evil Weevil casting was revived
for the HotwheelsCollectors.com
"Neo-Classics" series, and came
equipped with redline tires.  Only
10,500 were made.
2004
Four different modern Spoilers were issued in 2006.  Two were King Kudas (one convention car and one from
the Redline Club) one was an Evil Weevil from the Redline Club "Rewards Series", and the last car was a
